MyCalorieCoach

MyCalorieCoach: a Lose It! alternative after the price doubled

Lose It! is a clean, well-liked food diary that has been around for years, and it is the app a lot of people moved to when MyFitnessPal changed. Its annual Premium price has now doubled, from $39.99 to $79.99. MyCalorieCoach is $29.99 a year and works differently: you talk to a coach rather than search a database, and it plans around the food you refuse to give up.

Why people go looking for a Lose It! alternative

The annual price doubled

From $39.99 to $79.99. That is a fair thing for a company to do and a fair moment for you to ask whether a food diary is what you are actually buying.

It is still a diary

Search, pick, log, repeat. Lose It! runs that loop well, and cleanly. What it will not do is answer the question you have at 6pm, which is what to cook that still fits.

The database is Western by construction

Crowd-sourced entries are excellent for packaged food. A home-cooked plate of rice and three curries has no entry at all, so there is nothing to pick, and you end up guessing in the search bar.

Every calorie is treated as negotiable

A diary has no idea that the Friday takeaway is load-bearing. The food that makes your day yours is exactly the food a plan should be built to protect.

Where Lose It! is the better choice

If any of these matter more to you than the rest of this page, stay where you are. It is a good app and we would rather you kept using it than paid us for the wrong fit.

Common questions

Why did Lose It! Premium get more expensive?
Lose It! raised the new annual Premium price to $79.99, roughly double the previous $39.99, and moved Lifetime to $299.99. Their support article explains the change and how existing subscribers are treated. Checked on 2026-09-01.
What is a cheaper alternative to Lose It! Premium?
MyCalorieCoach is $29.99 a year, so a little over a third of the new Premium price, with a 14 day free trial and the founding rate locked for three years. It is a coach rather than a diary, so it is worth reading what that changes before you switch.
Is there a free alternative to Lose It!?
Lose It! itself has a free tier, and so do several other trackers. MyCalorieCoach does not: it is paid after the trial, because an AI coach costs money to run every time you talk to it and we would rather charge for that than sell your data.
Can I move my Lose It! history across?
No. There is no database to import into. The coach learns your foods and your usual portions from your first week or two of corrections, which in practice gets useful faster than an import would.
Does MyCalorieCoach have a barcode scanner like Lose It!?
Yes, and it can scan a whole basket of items in one go rather than one at a time. Photo logging is included as well, and neither is a separate tier.
