MyCalorieCoach

MyCalorieCoach: a Noom alternative at a seventh of the price

Noom is a psychology course with a food log attached, sold at a premium and built on a system that sorts what you eat into green, yellow and orange. MyCalorieCoach grades nothing. You name the food you will never cut, and the deficit gets found somewhere else. The price gap here is the widest on this site: $29.99 a year against $209.

Why people go looking for a Noom alternative

The price is the most common complaint

At $209 a year, or $70 a month if you did not commit up front, Noom is priced like a coaching service. Plenty of people find the lessons genuinely useful and still cannot justify renewing.

Colour-coding food is a judgement about food

Sorting foods into green, yellow and orange tells you a curry with ghee in it is the wrong kind of food. It is not. It is food you eat, and the arithmetic has to work around it, not the other way around.

The lessons stop being personal

The psychology course is well made, and it is the same course for everyone who signs up. By the second or third month a lot of people start calling it generic, because none of it reacts to what they actually ate.

Cancelling has a history

Noom settled a class action over its auto-renewal and cancellation flow for $56 million, plus $6 million in subscription credits, covering purchases between 2016 and 2020. As part of the settlement it added a cancel button and a separate auto-renewal opt-in, so this is history rather than a description of the app today. It is worth knowing all the same. We are a normal App Store subscription: you cancel it the way you cancel anything else.

Where Noom is the better choice

Common questions

Is there a cheaper alternative to Noom?
Most calorie apps are cheaper than Noom, because Noom is priced as a coaching programme rather than an app. MyCalorieCoach is $29.99 a year against Noom at $209, so about a seventh of the cost, with a 14 day free trial instead of a paid one.
How much does Noom cost per year?
About $209 for the 12 month plan, which works out at roughly $17.42 a month. Paying month to month is $70 a month. Checked on 2026-09-01 against Noom’s own pricing page.
Does MyCalorieCoach use the Noom colour system?
No, and deliberately. Sorting food into green, yellow and orange is a judgement about food, and it lands hardest on the home cooking people are least willing to give up. Nothing here is graded. The only colour that means anything is amber for over budget, and even that is never red.
Does MyCalorieCoach have human coaches?
No. The coach is an AI, and we say so plainly. That is why it costs $29.99 a year rather than $209, and it is why it can answer at 11pm on a Tuesday.
Is Noom worth it?
If the behaviour-change course is the part you want and the price is not a problem, it is the most complete version of that idea anywhere. Already done the course once, or paying $70 a month to use it as a food log? Then you are paying for something you stopped using a while ago.
